Rexburg’s Scariest Attractions

REXBURG — With Halloween approaching, spooky attractions are popping up around eastern Idaho. The Potato investigated the top three scariest attractions guaranteed to make any student flee in terror. And the best part? They’re all free. Why spend money on fear when you're a BYU-Idaho student? Students are advised to proceed with caution.

1. Speed Dating

Brigham Young University-Idaho’s speed-dating events have been reported as some of the most terrifying attractions to take place each semester. Students form long lines to meet strangers and determine in a matter of minutes whether they have found their eternal companion.

Richard Neelson, a freshman studying business, said he was ready to find his eternal companion at one of the events.

What begins as a simple conversation about a date’s major can quickly progress to graduation dates, career plans, housing arrangements and the feasibility of getting married before the next semester.

One student reportedly became concerned when their date revealed they wanted to graduate before getting married.

2. The Testing Center

If you want to be scared to tears, the Testing Center might be your top attraction this fall. Known as the place where students walk in with high hopes and dreams for the future and leave questioning every academic decision they have ever made, the Testing Center is sure to frighten even the most confident student.

Mallory Higgins, who monitors the center, says students should be prepared to not be prepared.

“Some students walk in confident they've studied enough,” Higgins said. “Those are usually the ones who come back out looking like they've just witnessed something they can't explain.”

The horror begins when students sit down and open the exam. What follows is a chilling discovery: The questions look nothing like the study guide.

Witnesses report seeing students stare at a single question for so long that they begin to question not only the answer but also their ability to read.

The Department of Academic Survival estimates that 63% of students leave the Testing Center in tears.

For those brave enough to enter, experts recommend reviewing the study guide, getting a full night's sleep and accepting that sometimes the most frightening words in the English language are, “You may begin.”

3. North Parking

If you're looking for an attraction that will leave you filled with rage and terrified of being late to your next class, north parking might be the place for you.

The north parking lots have become less of a parking area and more of a battlefield, with students lining the roads in hopes of claiming the next available spot. Drivers circle the same rows repeatedly, slowly losing faith in humanity with every passing minute.

This year, BYU-Idaho has made the attraction even more terrifying by closing several parking lots for construction, leaving students to compete for what remains of the campus parking supply.

Students have reported that the experience has left them more frightened than ever.
